Comparison of conventional bacterial extraction methods and the newly developed Nocardia extraction method. Procedures in conventional bacterial sample extraction methods (ethanol-formic acid extraction [EFAE] and high-temperature extraction [HTEM]) are shown in (A) and (B), respectively. We propose a new Nocardia extraction method (Nocardia extraction method in Department of Clinical Laboratory at Chiba University hospital; NECLC). This method is based on EFAE, incorporating an element of the HTEM (indicated in red in the figure) method, with the further addition of a formic acid extraction time of 10 minutes (underlined) (C).
